Lonergan Partners recently released its annual compilation of companies, people and insights: The Silicon Valley 150. 2021 was an incredible year for tech, but just about everything in Silicon Valley seemed to set records, regardless of the industry:
Revenues: up 25% from last year’s ranking, to $1.56 Trillion – a new high
Net income: up 42% from last year’s ranking, to $342 Billion – also a record high
Market cap: up 8% from March 31 of last year, to $10.6 Trillion, despite the headquarters moves of newly Texas-based Tesla, Oracle, and HPE, as well as the downward pressure on stocks from recent global economic and political events — this is a record high for the LSV150
There were also an incredible 17 newly public companies. While eight companies moved their headquarters out of the area, and 12 companies were acquired or went private.
There were dramatic increases in women on boards with 37% of board seats filled by women on Lonergan’s SV150. To see the complete list and for additional analysis, check out https://lonerganpartners.com/2022-lonergan-sv150-insights-2/lsv-150-people-insights-2022.
There were minimal gains however in female CEOs with only eight in this year’s ranking:
- Lisa Su, AMD (LSV #20)
- Jayshree Ullal, Arista (LSV #49)
- Elizabeth Spaulding, Stitch Fix (LSV #57), replacing woman CEO-founder Katrina Lake
- Mary Powell, Sunrun (LSV #70), replacing woman CEO-founder Lynn Jurich
- Hayden Brown, Upwork (LSV #114)
- Julie Wainwright, founder of TheRealReal (LSV #118)
- Jennifer Tejada, PagerDuty (LSV #144)
- Ann Wojcicki, founder of 23andMe (LSV#148)
Ultimately, we still have work ahead of us to reach gender parity; however, there are many companies and organizations working to make a concerted effort to increase the number of women and traditionally underrepresented people across all industries. If you want to get involved with us, we’d love to have you participate! Drop us a note at wli@gsaglobal.org.
