Crocus Technology is an early-stage developer of MRAM technology for dense, non-volatile, high-speed, scalable RAM memories. Founded in 2004, Crocus is currently completing the prototype phase of its process and chip development. The company’s MRAM technology was conceived in the Grenoble-based Spintec laboratory, a world leading R&D center in Spintronics affiliated with two famous French labs, CEA and CNRS. Crocus’ industry leading R&D allows the company to boast key innovations in both Thermally Assisted MRAM, or TAS technology, as well as in advanced proprietary Spin Torque architecture. TAS resolves all of the difficult issues with manufacturing and scaling MRAM chips encountered in first generation MRAM developments, and can be used with traditional MRAM structures as well as advanced spin-torque bit cells.
Crocus is unique in its capabilities for full MRAM process development and integration, and sustains both magnetic and conventional wafer processing equipment and engineering. The company is planning to target its technology for use in both high-density standalone memory as well as embedded SOC applications.
Its MRAM technology is covered by a comprehensive patent portfolio in both TAS and Spin Torque. The company licenses its technology for standalone and embedded chip applications in a wide variety of telecommunication, networking, storage, computing and handheld applications.
The company is backed by VC firms AGF, CDC Enterprises, NanoDimension, Sofinnova Partners, Sofinnova Ventures, and Ventech and has operations in Grenoble, France and Sunnyvale, California with nearly thirty employees in total.
