Membership Testimonials
"GSA plays a vital role with the emergence and worldwide adoption of the
outsourced semiconductor business model. The Alliance does an excellent job of
identifying industry challenges as well as opportunities to help its membership
collectively and individually succeed in today's competitive marketplace."
Dr. Craig H. Barratt, president and CEO, Atheros Communications
"I applaud GSA for its efforts in creating a platform for meaningful
collaboration to enhance and facilitate semiconductor development," stated
Lip-Bu Tan, President & Chief Executive Officer, Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
"The resources provided by GSA help to keep us abreast of technical and market
challenges facing the entire ecosystem. We see a tremendous potential for the growth
of semiconductor businesses and continue to leverage our membership to build valuable
partnerships."
Lip-Bu Tan, President & Chief Executive Officer, Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
"From its inception in 1994, GSA has worked to identify and articulate
market opportunities and address issues of importance to the semiconductor industry.
It provides forums for insight exchanges and collaboration while keeping our eco-system
informed on those issues critical to achieving increased market-share and profit-margin
goals."
Dr. Aart J. de Geus, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Synopsys, Inc.
"GSA offers its members a competitive edge by providing a wealth of market
intelligence focused on the outsourced business model. The breadth and quality of
the member cooperation coupled with unique tools and services, has earned GSA the
reputation of being the primary semiconductor industry association of relevance."
Dr. Nicky Lu, Chairman & CEO Etron Technology, Inc.
"For the past 15 years, GSA has successfully played a vital role with the
emergence and worldwide adoption of the outsourced business model. I have found that
the GSA roundtables provide for an excellent platform to address and ultimately offer
solutions to the increasingly complex issues of today, fueling potential to provide
semiconductor growth and profitability. GSA has helped us to stay ahead of the curve
and deliver on the promise of new wireless technologies."
Steve Mollenkopf, Executive Vice President & President, QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies (QCT)
"GSA's role has been vital to the emergence, adoption and dominance
of the business model. Today, the organization is focused on addressing the
challenges inherent in a complex value chain. Its new role will be to reduce
inefficiencies to ensure the long-term viability, growth and profitability of the
semiconductor industry."
Dr. Dwight Decker, GSA Board Chairman
"Since 1994, the growth of the organization from a handful of companies to
500 members worldwide speaks to the value of the organization and its founding
mission. This next phase in its evolution as the Global Semiconductor Alliance is
an exciting time, as it continues to support the overall growth of the semiconductor
industry alongside complementary organizations."
Wim Roelandts, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, Xilinx, Inc.
"While I am a retired semiconductor executive, I am still very involved with
GSA as its Director Emeritus. This organization has successfully moved past its
original charter playing a vital role with the emergence and worldwide adoption
of the fabless business model. The merits of this business model are well established
with both fabless companies and integrated device manufacturers embracing production
via dedicated foundries. However, there are still many issues that continue to be
addressed. If challenges are not addressed and ultimately solved, it will threaten
either the growth, profitability or both for this industry.
"From its inception, the GSA board, executive director and staff have worked
to address issues of importance to our members. I would encourage all members to help
keep us informed on issues of greatest importance. Together, we can be sure GSA remains
a strong voice and a critical element in pursuit of a vibrant semiconductor industry."
Dr. Robert Pepper, GSA Director Emeritus
"The semiconductor wafer manufacturing landscape is shifting rapidly from the
diverse 100 plus IDMs paradigm of the past to a highly concentrated bi-modal structure.
Beginning at 90 nanometers, a dozen or so pure IDMs and a dozen or so foundry companies
comprise the entire worldwide supply of mainstream bulk CMOS wafers. Driven by this trend
and the breadth and quality of the member cooperation within GSA, it has emerged as the
primary semiconductor industry association of relevance (addressing the enormous
consequences of this trend)”.
Mike Hackworth, Chairman, Co-founder & Director, Cirrus Logic, Inc
Recipient of the 2001 Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award
