GSA has made a significant impact on the industry since our inception in 1994,
playing a vital role with the emergence and worldwide adoption of the fabless
business model. Today, we continue our efforts with initiatives and focus to
ensure the growth and profitability of the semiconductor industry.
Mission & Vision
GSA's mission is to accelerate the growth and increase the return on invested
capital of the global semiconductor industry by fostering a more effective
fabless ecosystem through collaboration, integration and innovation.
To fulfill this mission, GSA will:
- Address the challenges and enable industry-wide solutions within the supply
chain, including intellectual property (IP), electronic design automation
(EDA)/design, wafer manufacturing, test and packaging.
- Provide a platform for meaningful global collaboration

Milestones
GSA and the National Microelectronics Institute (NMI), the trade association representing the semiconductor industry in the UK and Ireland, signed a collaborative memorandum of understanding (MOU) to officially form an organizational alliance between the two organizations.
GSA and China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) form an organizational alliance.
GSA hosts the first IP Conference. The two-day event focused on strategizing for a healthy IP ecosystem and featured 50 speakers.
GSA releases the Analog Mixed-Signal/RF Process Checklist, a document that identifies the different elements of a foundry’s AMS/RF process and its ability to fulfill a semiconductor company’s needs.
GSA hosts the first Israel Executive Forum centered on views, challenges and solutions to the most pressing business and technical issues facing semiconductor companies.

In response to IP quality issues viewed as a challenge in the industry, FSA begins to develop the Hard IP Quality Risk Assessment Tool. The FSA IP Subcommittee drives this initiative.
FSA's MS/RF Subcommittee's PDK Working Group released its MS/RF PDK Checklist, which provides guidelines to showcase PDK quality. The Checklist describes simulation models, technology files, design rule files and parameterized cell generators used to design today's complex mixed-signal and RF ICs.
FSA holds its first International Collaboration Series in Hsin-Chu, Taiwan.
FSA holds its first Suppliers Expo in Taiwan.
FSA introduces its Foundry, EDA, Test and IP Suppliers Forums to offer fabless companies an opportunity to view presentations and offerings from top industry vendors in a one-day session.
FSA forms an Asia-Pacific Technology Committee to help address pressing issues facing the Asia-Pacific semiconductor community.
FSA forms the SiP Subcommittee through its Asia-Pacific office to identify SiP technology issues, challenges and main applications. It also seeks to identify vertical partners and projects to work together on and to extend this effort to global members’ awareness and participation.
The Standard I/O Subcommittee is formed through the FSA Asia-Pacific office as a joint project of fabless members who are contributing their experienced engineers and their own internal general-purpose I/O cells. By forming a working task force with IP, FSA's mission is that this effort will create useful "general-purpose" or "standard" I/O cells, which can be made available to all fabless members with good portability at various foundries.
FSA adds assembly and test pricing to its quarterly Wafer Pricing Survey. The Assembly & Test Pricing Survey is designed to gauge the average prices paid per back-end service for fabless companies and IDMs.

FSA released the findings of a corporate governance study, Establishing an Effective Board of Directors, commissioned by FSA and conducted by Heidrick and Struggles International, one of the world's largest executive search firms. This research explores the characteristics of successful boards of directors in fabless semiconductor companies (80%) and IDMs (20%).
FSA introduces its first quarterly Fabless Fundings Report, which tracks venture capital investments in fabless companies.
FSA forms a MS/RF Subcommittee to accelerate the formation of an advanced mixed-signal/RF supply chain and ecosystem for fabless and fab-lite companies.

FSA establishes a new award at its annual Awards Dinner. The Exemplary Leadership award was designed to recognize an individual's outstanding contributions to the fabless semiconductor sector. The first Exemplary Leadership award was presented to Dr. Morris Chang, Chairman and Founder, TSMC. As a tribute to Dr. Chang and his success, FSA renamed the award and now presents it as the "Dr. Morris Chang Award for Exemplary Leadership."

GSA recognizes semiconductor companies that have demonstrated excellence through
their success, vision, strategy and future opportunities in the industry at its
annual Awards Dinner Celebration. It is an honor to
be selected as a nominee and an even more distinguished achievement to win an GSA Award!
Private Company Awards
Outstanding Revenue Growth by Private Semiconductor Companies
The top five private semiconductor companies (in terms of growth percentage) that doubled revenue over eight consecutive quarters, may be eligible to receive an award for their outstanding financial performance. Due to confidentiality, private companies submitted their ballots directly to a designated consulting firm to determine which companies doubled revenue. GSA does not receive a copy of financial data within submissions. Up to five companies are eligible to receive this award.
Criteria:
- Company must be a semiconductor company* (Fabless or IDM).
- Company must be private held.
- Company must be generating $2 million revenue in quarter ending Sept. 2008.

Start-Up to Watch Award
The GSA Start-Up to Watch Awards Committee, which is comprised of members of the Emerging CEO Council, venture capitalists and select serial entrepreneurs in the industry, selects the winner of the Start-Up To Watch award by identifying the semiconductor company that demonstrates the potential to positively change its market or the semiconductor industry in general through the innovative use of semiconductor technology or a new application for semiconductor technology.
Criteria:
- Company must be a semiconductor company (Fabless or IDM).
- Company must have introduced its first product within the last 3.5 years (between January 1, 2007 and June 30, 2010).
- Company must have demonstrated initial market success by achieving a minimum of $5 million of cumulative product revenue (i.e., cumulative product revenue since market introduction).

Most Respected Private Semiconductor Company Award
The industry's Most Respected Private Semiconductor Company award is designed to identify the private company garnering the most respect of the industry in terms of its products, vision and future opportunity. GSA's Awards Committee reviews all private semiconductor companies, and the selected nominees and winner are based on the committee's analysis of each company's performance and likelihood of long-term success.
Criteria:
- Company must be a semiconductor company (Fabless or IDM).
- Company must be privately held.
- Company must be shipping product and generating revenue greater than $20 million.
Deadline to submit: July 23, 2010 --CLOSED
Public Company Awards
All public company awards are determined by GSA using public financial
data; therefore, nomination forms are unnecessary.
Best Financially Managed Semiconductor Company Award
The Best Financially Managed Semiconductor Company Award is designed to evaluate the financial health of the public fabless semiconductor companies based on a number of financial metrics, such as return on investment, return on equity, inventory turns, revenue, net income, days sales outstanding, cash per share, cash burn, gross profit margin, operating margin and current ratio. GSA and financial analysts evaluate each company against their peers, and the one with the best overall performance is determined the winner.
Most Respected Public Semiconductor Company Award Achieving $500 Million to $10 Billion in Annual Sales
The industry's Most Respected Public Semiconductor Company ($500 million to $10 billion+ in annual sales) award is designed to identify the public company garnering the most respect of the industry in terms of its products, vision and future opportunities. The criteria for this award include achieving annual sales above $500 million. In addition, profitability and market capitalization, among other financial and product successes, are considered to be listed on the ballot. GSA's Awards Committee reviews the companies meeting the criteria, and select the final list of companies based on the Committee's analysis of each company's performance and likelihood of success in the industry. On-line voting takes place to allow members of the semiconductor industry, including semiconductor companies and partners, to cast a ballot for the public semiconductor company they most respect.

The industry's Most Respected Public Semiconductor Company ($10 billion+ in annual sales) award is designed to identify the public company garnering the most respect of the industry in terms of its products, vision and future opportunities. The industry's Most Respected Emerging Public Semiconductor Company award is designed to identify the company garnering the most respect of the industry in terms of its products, vision and future opportunities. The criteria for this award include (but is not limited to) achieving a minimum of $50M to $499 million in annual sales; a minimum market cap of $250 million ending June 30 of the year of the award; and in good standing with a stock exchange. In addition, profitability among other financial and product successes, are considered to be listed on the ballot. GSA's Awards Committee review the companies meeting the criteria, and the selected companies are based on the Committee's analysis of each company's performance and likelihood of success. On-line voting took place to allow members of the semiconductor industry, including semiconductor companies and partners, to cast a ballot for the public fabless company they most respect.
Analyst Favorite Semiconductor Company Award
Semiconductor financial analysts from top-tier firms select their favorite semiconductor company for this award. The analysts base their decision on historical, as well as projected data, such as stock price, earnings per share, revenue forecasts and product performance.
Regional Awards
As a global alliance, GSA introduced an award specifically for the
Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions. The awards
will recognize a semiconductor company headquartered in each respective region
that clearly demonstrates the most strength when measuring products, vision,
leadership and success in the marketplace. GSA’s APAC and EMEA Leadership
Councils will determine both the nominees and the winner.

The Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award recognizes individuals, such as
its namesake, Dr. Morris Chang, for their exceptional contributions to drive the
